Michael Lewis Schwarting

Michael L. Schwarting, age 72, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mike was born on May 10, 1949 in Topeka, Kansas, to Joe Schwarting and Izora (Patton) Schwarting.  His family moved to Tucson, Arizona, in 1959.  After attending Tucson High for three years, he completed public school at Hobbs High School in New Mexico where he was a member of All-State Band and a member of the senior class band royalty court.  He attended New Mexico Junior College and then New Mexico State University where he was active in the History Club. 

In the early 1970s, Mike served in the United States Army.  He was stationed in Germany and was discharged with the rank of Captain.  He worked for Tri-State Motor Transit for over 20 years and retired as Safety Manager.  He was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed being a referee for local soccer leagues in the area.  He also enjoyed bowling and was involved with many leagues over the years.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, an older sister, Kaye Loutzenheiser, and a step-son, Jon E. Moore.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Linda (Lewis) Schwarting; sons, Ben Schwarting and wife Kassie, Dan Schwarting and wife Melissa; step-son, Jeff Moore and wife Cheryl; grandchildren, Bryce Schwarting and wife Emily, Kutler Schwarting, Colin Schwarting, Alex Schwarting, Evan Schwarting, and Samantha Moore; his brother, Dr. Steve Schwarting and wife Toni; sisters, Betty Chastain and Marilyn Hawley; brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Luann Lewis Lawrence.
