THS '67 Badger Terri Jackson on the Ballot!

Our classmate Theressa "Terri" Jackson has been nominated for the Badger Foundation Hall of Fame, and her name is on the ballot that was revealed today!  Out of 790 foundation members, 460 have voting privileges due to life membership status, past or present service on the board of directors, or previous induction into the Hall of Fame.  Voting ends on June 30, and winners will be inducted in October.  Below is her information included on the ballot:

Theressa A. “Terri” Jackson, Class of 1967, Community Leader

Theressa Ann Jackson:  a life-long trailblazer!  With parents as teachers, she learned the value of education, took advantage of opportunities, and has paid it forward many times.

Just one year following the Supreme Court ruling in Brown versus Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas, Terri entered first grade at a previously all-white school in Topeka, truly on the cusp of full racial integration in public schools.

After being an all-around student at Tucson High and Arizona Western College, she transferred to Arizona State University, received a Sociology degree, and was one of nine founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority on campus.  She later earned a master's in Organizational Management.

While excelling in various Maricopa County Superior Court administrative positions over a 40-year career, Terri produced/hosted the 18-year television show "Get It On," highlighting stories in the Black community.  She quips, "I was Oprah Winfrey before Oprah Winfrey!"

She fulfilled training as a selected member of the Sixth Valley Leadership Program; volunteered with the Black Board of Directors Project helping place underrepresented professionals on boards; and later won the prestigious Ragsdale Best Director Award.  She too served on boards in Phoenix (YWCA, Children's Activity Museum, Tumbleweed Center, Desert Chapter of Alzheimer's Association) and nationally (Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice and Association of Pretrial Services Agencies).

Terri also directed the Phoenix NAACP ACT-SO program securing grants and taking students to national competitions focusing on academics and humanities.  Governor Napolitano named her a delegate to present at the 2008 Symposium on Women's Issues in Zhengzhou, China.

Upon her 2012 retirement, Terri's name was etched onto a Maricopa County Pillar of Honor; however, her civic engagement did not end.  She was chosen for the Community and Police Trust Initiative Task Force and earned Storytelling Certification for the purpose of promoting literacy.

By mayoral appointment, Terri currently serves on both the Phoenix Women's Commission and Human Relations Commission.  She is an NAACP lifetime member, philanthropist, and world traveler.  Her stated life purpose:  "To assist in the development of girls and women into global leadership positions."  Her success in this endeavor is admirable and inspiring.

If you are eligible to vote, please vote!  If you're not but know people who are, please encourage them to do so.  We'd all be proud to see Terri become the first 1967 classmate inducted into the Badger Foundation Hall of Fame!

February 14, 2021       Happy Valentines Day!

Hello, THS '67!  Here we are again celebrating another Day of Love and Friendship, but this year we're decked out in our 11-month-old masks, and the main topic of the day is the COVID-19 vaccine.  In an ideal world, we all would have already received two shots.  Some have, some have gotten the first shot, and sadly, some are still struggling with online registration systems that continue to produce error messages or announcements such as, "Sorry, all slots taken."

One Badger commented that it was much easier getting tickets to see Paul McCartney live in concert than snagging an appointment for Shot #1.  (No, not the young Paul McCartney but the "old" one who jumped from one platform to another during his almost three-hour concert in 2013.  He was 71 years old then.)

But let's keep the faith and hang in there.  This pandemic is something we've never experienced in our long lifetimes, and soon, God willin', we'll all be vaccinated and can Carry On with our lives—spending time with loved ones, traveling, exploring new restaurants, going to happy hours, attending reunions, etc.

BTW, has each and every one of you joined this website?  Have you moved?  Updated your contact info?  Don't be left out; stay in the loop!  For details on how to join, please review the July 2019 message below.

March 28, 2020        COVID-19

Take Care of Yourselves!

It's shocking to realize that we Class of 1967 Badgers are "the elderly," but we must take this coronavirus pandemic seriously.  Bucky Badger wants to remind everyone of the precautions:  Stay at home.  Wash your hands often.  Seek medical care if you develop a fever and a cough and have difficulty breathing.

In the midst of this unusual situation, it's important to stay connected to family and friends.  How quick it is to do that nowadays compared to the 1960s.  Back then we had the telephone (some with party lines), telegrams, and letter writing.  Now the addition of text messaging, email, and social media have made keeping in touch instantaneous and so much easier.

You can even use this website to communicate with old friends and make new ones.  Please keep your contact info current as well.

Bucky wishes he could give everyone besos and abrazos, but for now, he'll just say,

"Carry On, and Be Safe!"

July 2019

We are more than halfway through 2019, the year most of us turn 70 years old!  Bucky Badger says, “Happy Birthday!” and hopes that all of us are healthy and are able to celebrate this milestone in ways that we choose.

Our 50-year class reunion was held in November of 2017, and the attendees’ big smiles and hugs proved that everyone had a great time.  Big, BIG thanks to Adrienne Ash for heading up and organizing all aspects of the celebration!  Over two dozen classmates met up in committees and worked hard to make the reunion a success.

Special acknowledgement to Sylvia Navarrette Ferber for going above and beyond with decorations and the silent auction; to Dee Aguilar Gobea, for creating a beautiful in-memory display to honor classmates who have passed on to Badger Heaven; and to Frank Kingman for recognizing our military service veterans in such a meaningful presentation.

The Tucson High Badger Foundation expressed much appreciation for our class donation made possible by proceeds from the silent auction and raffles held at the reunion.  We encourage your continued support of this fine organization on an individual basis.  Visit the foundation’s website to learn about all the good work they do:   http://www.badgerfoundation.org

A quick summary of ways to help appears when you click the tab Support Badger Foundation on the left-hand menu bar of this website.

This THS ’67 Class Website went up two years ago and has been useful for keeping track of classmate contact info, providing all information about the reunion, and allowing Badgers to communicate with others.  The site was down for a while, but it’s back up with a slightly different address:  www.tucsonbadgers1967.us

What You Can Do Now:

(1)  Please Join the Site if you have not done so.  Joining is simple; joining is free.  All you have to do is enter an email address and create a password.  Your email address will be kept private.  It is extremely helpful if you also make sure your address and telephone numbers are correct.

How to Join:  Find your name under Classmate Profiles or Missing Classmates. (“Missing” simply means that there is no email address nor snail mail address on file for you.)  Follow the directions to enter your contact info and if you would like, add information in your profile section.

Once you officially join, you will hear about any class happenings and have the ability to communicate with others on the site.

(2)  Keep Your Information Current -- You will be reminded occasionally to do so.

(3)  Use the Site!  Get in Touch with individual classmates or groups.  You can share as much or as little as you like.  This can be our own little THS ’67 Facebook!  (Or not!)

(4)  Spread the Word to Badgers who haven’t joined the site and help locate the “Missing.”

Please cope with any advertisements you see; we have no control over content.  There is a charge for an ad-free site; we may return to that in the future.

Old Friendships were renewed at the reunion.  New Friendships have been formed since, and classmates are getting together in small groups on their own.  Lunches, happy hours, pot lucks, swim parties, trips.  Bucky is hearing rumors that some folks would like to have Another Reunion, whether it be next year or for our 55th anniversary of leaving Tucson High.  Something much more casual and less expensive, but FUN nevertheless.

Who would like to be involved in planning something for the future?

Click    Contact Us   (this link)  or  Contact Us   on the website (right end of the horizontal menu bar) to let us know, and we will connect willing individuals.

Carry On, dear Badgers, and KIT (Keep In Touch)!    Melinda and Ron  (Still in Austin, Texas)

*   In May, I turned 21--with 49 years of experience added on!   mmc   ♥

Representing your class at this time:
